A Day at the Spa – Essence Spa Cork Review

Essence Spa Cork

No matter how much you enjoy it, we all know Christmas planning, working and life in general can sometimes be stressful. So we can’t blame anyone for wanting to get away from it all. We were lucky enough to escape for a couple of hours to review two treatments at the Essence Spa located in the Clayton Hotel in Cork city.

Essence Spa

Hydrotherapy bath

The spa is clean, small and calm.  When availing of the hydrotherapy bath treatment you can choose from Yon-Ka Phyto Bain Oil or Balneo SEL Seaweed Salts, I chose the Yon-Ka Phyto Bain Oil. There is something relaxing about inhaling a pleasant aroma while being in the bath! The soft soothing music, the candles and the dipped lighting creates a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. Ruth, the therapist explained exactly what to expect and had no problem answering any questions.

There was a mixture of  jets and bubbles to provide a therapeutic experience that helps to soothe the muscles and joints. The soothing affects of the warm water and gentle massage induced a pleasant state helping to ease away the thoughts of stress and worry. If availing of any treatment for relaxation purposes make sure to focus on the here and now. After this treatment, I was feeling very relaxed and my skin felt softer, which is good because I suffer from dry skin! If your looking for a gentle, relaxing and private massage the hydrotherapy bath is a good option as you are by yourself.

Essence Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage

I love a good massage but of course that is all dependant on the therapist. If you have a good rapport with your therapist and feel comfortable in their presence it makes a big difference. My therapist, Ruth was very friendly and I definitely felt relaxed in her presence. I wanted a massage that was deep in pressure and Ruth really accommodated this. It was perfect, I didn’t want it to end! Ruth was very professional and made sure to check in to see if I was comfortable and happy with the amount of pressure and with the environment settings i.e. the lighting etc. I felt so relaxed after the massage and my shoulders didn’t feel as stiff.

Following the massage, I relaxed in the relaxation area with some fruit and herbal tea. Somewhere to relax for 15-20 minutes after really does finish off the treatments nicely!

Few points to note:
  • On arrival you will receive your robe, towels and slippers at reception located near the gym.
  • You can use the pool before your treatment. The changing room for the spa is the same as the leisure centre and gym. It is small, busy and not as luxuries as other spa changing rooms.
  • If you are using the Clayton Essence Spa facilities you can avail of two hours free parking at the Clayton. After that you will have to pay.
  • If you plan to go to a spa for any treatment make sure you have your diary free for afterwards to continue in that zen mode for the rest of the evening!

If you are looking for Christmas gift ideas or to relax and rejuvenate yourself you can’t go wrong with

an Essence Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage!
