Learn More About Jessica:

Please introduce yourself?
My name is Jessica Power, I’m a mother to two toddlers Eva & Ben and wife to Eoghan, living in Youghal by the Sea.
I set up an online craft business jesterdesign in October 2013, while on maternity leave with my first baby.  I started making soft baby headbands, personalised jute tote bags, hand painted wooden gifts and box frames.  I had my second baby 15 months after my first and it was then that I decided to give up my permanent job and take the chance on my own business full time.
In November 2016, I set up Jessica Diaries Craft Interior & Lifestyle Blog where I share my love for crafts and interiors with a bit of family life in between.  The purpose of setting up my Blog was to help promote and market my craft business but also to hopefully inspire people to #reloveyourhome by showcasing my Reloved by Jessica Furniture Projects.
In April 2017, five months after setting up my Blog, I opened up my first Retail Store and Studio –
Jessica Loves Gifts & Homewares at 105 North Main Street, Youghal, Co. Cork and rebranded from jesterdesign to Jessica Loves.

What is your advice/tips for a person just starting to blog for the first time?

Blog about something you are passionate about as that will show through in your writing and hopefully engage your readers.  Join a Blogging Group to meet like-minded and motivated people.  There is nothing like a bit of support and encouragement especially from other women.  I suppose my biggest and most important piece of advice would be to triple check your blog posts.  For me, there is nothing more off-putting when reading a post than bad spelling and incorrect use of grammar.  Use the spell check or ask a friend to read over your draft before publishing, I do miss things myself from time to time!

Have you done any collaborations?

I have not done any paid collaborations but have been gifted some products which I promoted if I really liked using it.  I do like to feature fellow girl bosses and businesses in my Friday Favourites series which I mainly do free of charge as I love to see others grow and build their brands.

I shared one of my Reloved by Jessica Blog Posts on Twitter and tagged RustOleum which was the Brand of Furniture Paint I used on that particular project.  Their PR company in the UK saw it, took a look around my website and contacted me to say they liked the look of my Blog and asked if I would like to receive some paint for future projects.  I was both shocked and thrilled as I was very new to Twitter having less than 50 followers!  It just goes to show that you don’t need a huge following to get noticed by Brands, you just need to have honest and engaging content.

Jessica’s Photography/Videography Tips:

What do you use to take pictures/videos?

I just use my iPhone at the moment but would love to have a professional camera eventually as it really does make a huge difference visually.

What apps do you use to edit your pictures/videos?
I use Instagram to lighten or sharpen my pictures, I don’t really use the filters anymore, I just add a bit of light or shadow or warmth.  On Snapchat though I am filtered beyond recognition!!

Jessica’s Favourites:

Favourite Beauty Brand?

This is a hard one for me as I’m really not that into Beauty products… I do love to get my lashes done though – does that count?!

Favourite fashion brand?

I really like New Look although Ted Baker has some gorgeous pieces at the moment but my style is just way too casual.  On a daily basis, you are sure to find me wearing a t-shirt, jeans, converse and my paint covered apron!

Favourite shop?

My go-to shop would be New Look, I will always find something there but I also like River Island, Bella, Born, Dunnes Stores and Penneys of course.  My favourite Online Shop would be Littlewoods Ireland as they have lots of great Brands and their own V by Very Range is fab.  I bought some really nice bits from iClothing too recently!

Favourite place to visit or thing to do in Cork and why?

As I am always on the go between crafting, blogging and motherhood my favourite thing to do is go on a Spa Day as it forces me to relax!  The Fota Island Resort and the Castlemartyr Resort are amazing and so luxurious.  I love that they are both so close to home but yet still makes you feel like you are a million miles away.

Favourite restaurant in Cork and why?

It has to be Scoozis, it never disappoints and is great for fuelling up before hitting the Shops!
